The Amazon is home to 50% of the worlds tropical forest. In addition to its vast territory, another impressive feature is its biodiversity: the largest river basin, one fifth of fresh water, 400 billion trees, 20% of the Earths species diversity, and it stores between 150 and 200 billion tons of carbon. However, for decades, human action has unbalanced this ecosystem, and today what we see is a paradox that generates forest destruction, air pollution, and low local development rates.
